What does broken key extraction involve?
Keys snap from wear, from forcing a stiff lock, or from a heavy keychain pulling on the ignition. Pushing the broken piece deeper or using glue usually makes it worse.
We pull the broken piece with extraction tools, check the lock for damage, and cut a replacement key from the broken halves or from the code. When the car key has a chip, we program the new key too.

My key broke in the ignition. What should I do?
Leave it, don't try to start the car with pliers, and call. We remove it and cut a new key that starts the car.
Can you make a new key from the broken pieces?
Often, yes. Both halves together let us read the cuts. If not, we cut from the code.
Will the lock need to be replaced?
Usually not. If the cylinder is damaged, we tell you before doing anything else.
Do you remove broken keys from house locks too?
Yes, from house, office, mailbox, and padlock cylinders.
